2nd and 3rd year students from LiveSpace were set a team challenge of repurposing discarded objects and building materials sourced from Brisbane’s Reverse Garbage store. Working with skilled carpenter Patrick Connaughton in the workshop and a minimal budget, students designed and constructed functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture pieces from materials that would traditionally end up in landfill. While developing craftsmanship and hands on experience, students developed an insight of ‘waste culture’ and the endless possibilities of extending material lifespans.
