Early investigations into the recycling of waste materials from Toowoomba’s rubbish tips commenced in May 2014, led by postgraduate student Michael Epworth. Initial discussions were with Ability Enterprises, a Toowoomba-based not for profit organisation that provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities, the long-term unemployed and minority groups. Ability Enterprises, which staffs the Toowoomba tips, is interested in collaborating with LiveSpace to develop prototype furniture using scrap materials salvaged from the tips. A proposal for the initiative was sent to Toowoomba Shire Council in October 2014, with the aim of commencing in 2015.
